The Collector's Encyclopedia of Cowan Pottery: Identification and Value Guide
Published in Hardcover by Collector Books (October, 1993)
Authors: Tim Saloff and Jamie Saloff
Average review score:

An invaluable resource for collectors of this art pottery...
This excellent reference book is a must-have for any collector of this wonderful at pottery. The authors obviously took some real time and effort to put the book together, and their work really shows. There is a great section on the history of the pottery, with sections on past and recent history (including info about the Rocky River library purchase). There is discussion of the various artists who worked for or did designs for Cowan, including: Bogatay, Martin, Jossett, Gregory, Winter, Hummel, Cowan himself, and Schreckengost of course. A section discusses the bodyware, glaze, and pottery marks, and there is a special section on the famous Jazz Bowl.

The rest of the book consists of an identification and value guide. It's chock-full of mostly color photos of various Cowan pieces, with sizes given, as well as prices (although it's worth noting that the prices are no longer quite accurate, due to the effect that online auctions have had on collectibles of late). The photos are sharp for the most part, with details shown clearly. All in all this is a great book for the Cowan collector.

Coming to Terms With the Potter
Published in Paperback by Xulon Press (August, 2002)
Author: Robert Christopher Brown
Average review score:

A worthwile read
This is more than a book about God's ability and willingness to heal people. This book brings us as close to the process of a BMT as we would ever want to be. This book just doesn't talk about healing and infirmity though, this book also talks about other struggles we face in our lives such as career burnout; the struggle for people in their 20s and 30s to move out of their parent's home; dreams crashing; expectations being unforfilled, life passing someone by; and so on.

A masterly reference work by a knowledgable professional
Les Potter has worked with my organization to develop a strategic plan using the principles espoused in this book. He's great, and the book is great. For the cost of a dinner out you can turn your moribund organization to a front runner, using this book. I recommend it 100%.

The Complete Potter: Animal Forms and Figures
Published in Hardcover by Batsford (July, 1991)
Author: Rosemary Wren

I wish I could buy it off the library !!
This is a beautiful book of ideas for animal lovers who dabble in clay. Ms Wren's creations capture beautifully the essence of cats, owls, birds, etc. It's a shame it's no more in print. I'd love to get my hands on it.

Constructing Crime: Perspectives on Making News and Social Problems
Published in Paperback by Waveland Press (February, 1998)
Authors: Gary W. Potter and Victor E. Kappeler
Average review score:

Excellent Collection of Articles
This book is a collection of contemporary social constructionist articles on crime. The role of the media in "constructing crime" figures prominently in many of the articles. There isn't another book like this on the market. The articles have been wisely selected to be readable, interesting, and to cover a variety of topics. I list this book as a recommended supplement for the crime and criminal justice classes that I teach. The book provides an excellent introduction to constructionist approaches to crime and would be a suitable complement to a traditional textbook. If you want to understand public (mis)perceptions of crime, I highly recommend the book and the authors (check out their other books!)

Dancing With a Rogue
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Berkley Pub Group (01 July, 2003)
Author: Patricia Potter
Average review score:

A delight
In 1792 England, his distraught father informs ten year old Gabriel Manning that family honor is at stake as men he called friends betrayed him and England. His distressed dad sends his beloved wife and their son to America before killing himself.

In 1815, Gabriel finds it ironic that his enemy England informs him that he is now a Marquess. He sees this as the avenue to finally avenge his father by destroying the three rogues who ruined his sire. However, actress Merry Anders seeks retribution from the three members of the group that ruined her mother. When Gabriel and Merry collide, a new feeling begins to overwhelm the hatred that fills both their mutual hearts as they fall in love at an untimely moment.

This Regency romance will thrill sub-genre fans because of the attitudes of the lead couple. Gabriel and Merry are a delightful pair, as both detest the weakness they perceive that love causes. The duet individually recognizes those positive feelings for someone else only impedes their respective quests. Patricia Potter has provided a character driven story that her audience will enjoy as they find themselves DANCING WITH A ROGUE and his actress.
